After a preliminary study of Ebbw Vale’s medical landscape, the existing infrastructure is adequate. Several factors however dictate the need for an 118 bed primarily inpatient focused hospital. Factors include the limited availability of transportation (only 73% of Ebbw Vale residents have access to automobiles) and the limited availability of jobs. This hospital must then be accessible, and must stimulate the local economy. The ideal site for this hospital is then closest to the community and local businesses. The hospital inserts itself along the path taken from the regional train line to the Ebbw Vale downtown area. With this placement, the hospital not only becomes an economic stimulant but starts to play a role in the health of the whole community.
