This phased transitional housing complex was designed for clients with physical limitations due to cerebral palsy. While the apartments and facilities are intended to be accessible, some features of the units were intentionally designed to challenge the residents to adapt to more typical building practices found in non-institutional care settings.
The houses’ design is modern in form with clean lines and open spaces. The interior detailing is warm, with wood accents. The houses prove that an institutional setting can provide residents with a sense of dignity, not sentence them to confinement in a cold, clinical environment.
The complex will have six four-bedroom units which will be unified into a campus setting by a community building that wraps around the end units to form a common lawn. To assist in wayfinding, bands of accent colors chosen from the UCP logo were used on the exterior walls.
