Admirals Cove Alameda Townhomes and Clubhouse

Degen & Degen brings new life to a former military housing community. Admirals Cove in Alameda California, just outside Oakland has been converted to a private multi-family community.

The newly built Clubhouse serves as a hub for leasing associates and the community alike. Visibility being paramount, the building was located as centrally as possible within the site. Its boomerang shape emphasizes that visibility from the drive approach while also capturing the outdoor pool and recreation area and sheltering it from public view. The strong gesture of a single shed roof motions toward the communities Estuary Park across the way and floods the space with
natural light while giving it a stately presence and modern architectural style that complements the original Naval housing.

All structures on site were designed for a thoroughly cohesive environment. The existing 150-units nestled in 27 row-house type buildings received a full  renovation inside and out. The exterior design challenge set before us was to give each unit its own modern individualized character. The result is a carefully selected palette of over a dozen colors and the addition of new built front porches, canopies and stoops.
