The Way We Work

Our Office is led by 3 partners Jeff Dotterweich, Cynthia Carlson and Tiemo Mehner. All three partners are actively involved in the office and will take care of projects from start to finish.

Jeff Dotterweich and Tiemo Mehner have worked together for over 12 years before founding Dotterweich Carlson Mehner Design Inc. (DCM).  Jeff and Tiemo have  extensive experience in commercial projects and have constructed office buildings, technology projects, mixed-use developments among many others. A strong team with complimentary talents, Jeff and Tiemo have developed an intuitive way of working which allows for fast project delivery and tight quality control.

Cynthia Carlson is responsible for the residential portfolio at DCM. Her background includes residential work from small remodels to new construction of large residences. Cynthia has worked in collaboration with some of the most sought-after interior designers in Los Angeles to deliver high-end residential projects.

We believe that a successful project can only work in Collaboration with all  project team members. We see ourselves as a node in a network that includes the client, project engineers, contractors and many others that are integral in completing a complex project. We can provide complete Architecture and Engineering services, partnering within a network of specialists and engineers that will complete our services as required for a project.

Our Office is project-based with flexible teams custom tailored  to fit each project. Teams are sized and staffed to fit a particular project and the team will be responsible to deliver a project from conceptual design to construction completion, allowing for continuity and good flow of information. Our open interdisciplinary approach is based on the ability of self guided work of all team members without a strong hierarchy .

Quality Control, Schedule, Budget and Safety are integral to project delivery, we understand the dynamics between these factors and have worked with clients that require a high degree of project control and metrics reporting and can provide tight control over all phases of a project using all available tools.

Sustainable design and LEED have become an important part of project delivery and a priority for many of our clients. We have completed Certified and Gold rated LEED projects for new construction, Remodel and Core and Shell buildings.

Our Services include Design for Commercial and Residential projects for all phases of project delivery from feasibility studies to Construction Administration.
