There is a site in Post Falls, ID where a local veneer mill used to thrive. Closed in 2020, part of the site was cleared with few buildings remaining. These few buildings were the beginning of WovenWorx. Located in the new downtown boundaries, WovenWorx creates an environment where people of all ages, abilities, and statuses can come together. This design provides multiple types of indoor and outdoor programs for the community to enjoy that tie into the city’s pre-existing community gathering, creative, and green spaces.
While embracing the remaining structure, we also celebrate its presence by putting it on display. Weaving through the steel trusses is a series of interconnected sky bridges that link various programming spaces together. These sky bridges interact with public spaces on the site while also reaching out to new apartment buildings, thus stitching together public and private needs.
Along this path exists retail spaces, offices, galleries, creative spaces, and interactive learning spaces. Outside, a variety of ecosystems aim to bring back plant and animal life that was once very prevalent on the site. WovenWorx contains a shade garden, rain gardens, pine forests, a community garden, and additional native plant life. Overall, WovenWorx is a space that provides living spaces, community spaces, and activity spaces across the entirety of the site while being accessible and giving nods to the area’s history.
