Watercolor Fire Station

“Not only is it a beautiful building that blends well with the WaterColor look, but it has exceeded our expectations as an operational fire station.” -Leslie M. Hallman,  former Fire Chief / Administrator, South Walton Fire District

Built in a southern vernacular style with wide porches, ample overhanging metal shed roofs, and a central tower, this fire station is both a state-of-the-art facility with a three-bay fire engine garage and a civic beacon.  The station includes a hardened 5,200 SF firehouse and facilities for response to the emergency and beach rescue needs of this resort area.  DAG worked closely with several constituencies: the developers had specific design objectives, while the fire district had distinct technical and budget requirements.

The board and batten aesthetic is characteristic of the beach community the station serves, as are the wide public entry porch and watch tower.  The station has won design awards from the Northwest Florida AIA and the Fire Industry Equipment Research Organization.  The former fire chief, Leslie Hallman, commented, “The response from the public has basically been ‘wow.’”
