3D Printing: Paris Boutique Facade Model

To create this scale model, the brand surprisingly had no assets from which to start. So, a photographer in Paris was hired to visit this well-known gbrand's very first boutique on Rue Cambon to shoot a series of straight-on photographs that could be tiled in post to then draft detailed elevations from, which were then used to build a detailed 3d model from. The final 38" x 13" x 4" facade model is composed of five distinct pieces with 3d seams (the seams meander along architectural details in elevation, plan and section as opposed to simple planar vertical slices that would disrupt the arcs and angles in the facade).

All of the awnings, signage and other seemingly additive and delicate features were printed as part of the larger monolithic pieces. The model was also 3d printed on a full-color machine, so the signage and graphics were mapped onto the digital files and printed directly into the pieces.

The resulting scale model became a major centerpiece for the brand's traveling exhibit.
