Unit 20: Street and Sanctuary is a yearlong graduate architecture foundation studio focusing on the intersection of politics and religion during the Civil Rights Movement. For the spring, the studio shifts focus towards the White House, where an
ongoing competition is being hosted by Arch Out Loud.
The proposal is situated around the George Floyd protest, which captivated society in the midst of a pandemic. The collages dictated that surveillance should be a motif that proliferates throughout the project.
A massive green roof envelops the Executive Mansion, transforming it into a public space where civilians can overlook Washington, D.C. Inside, a cavernous space functions as two programs: A church and a gallery to showcase past hardships by various minority groups
