Creative Workspace for Global Brand

CORE created a flexible work and event space that merges the spirit of the global brand with the local character of Washington, DC.

The design delivers a workspace with a hospitality sensibility and facilitates gatherings of all sizes, while providing a highly functional workplace for day-to-day tasks. Putting an emphasis on the power of collaborative and unique work environments beyond the typical desk, the space is about 50% private office and 50% common area. As such, users enjoy opportunities to engage in various work modes, ranging from individual work to both intimate and large collaborative meetings. Upon arrival, guests experience a monumental entry, which incorporates a subtle bas relief of the client's logo inspired by the inscriptions on some of DC’s famous monuments. The treatment of the logo downplays attention to the client suite, providing privacy and intrigue. This millwork piece also includes a library for objects highlighting the brand, with arched forms reminiscent of DC’s metro stations. Much like the city of Washington DC, many design elements reflect the interplay of the traditional and the revolutionary. For example, a classical Pierre Frey wallcovering received an overlay, appearing almost like graffiti. An open pantry that is the nexus of day-to-day office activities, doubles as an intimate entertaining space for special events. Design details are reinterpreted from prominent DC bars, including marble-look counters with an ogee edge, fluted patterning, brass trims, and a tray ceiling with crown molding. For screening events, the living room employs tiered seating heights to optimize views for all guests, and draperies can be drawn to conceal the private offices, creating a theatrical environment. The client previously added a second “wing” to their office space, which previously felt disconnected. To draw people into that portion of the office, CORE collaborated with the client’s branding team to design an art installation featuring key company milestones. Photography: Ron Ngiam
