The chapter is divided into four stories looking into different types of spaces. The first part presents the most prominent public spaces of each historical period. Beginning from small-scale square created at bifurcating street of Casbah, it follows to large-scale square that were meant to manifest political force of the time. Squares built by colonizer were designed to serve the army and facilitate shipping goods to mother country.
