The interior material palette and furniture for Crest Apartments, the 63-unit formerly-homeless housing project designed by Michael Maltzan Architecture were driven by the clean, honest, light modern aesthetic of the building design.  Items were chosen and coordinated from the larger workstation desk systems down to the clocks and shower curtains for each room.  The studio rooms were laid out with custom-designed, minimal metal and walnut wood laminate bed and drawer sets that met the needs of the tenants: easy to clean, bed-bug resistant, and modern but with a warm aesthetic.  The exterior lounges and dining areas also have custom tables and benches of white metal powder-coated frames and sealed redwood as well as bright seats, tables for punches of color.  Both pre-made and custom furniture areas also met the very tight budget of Skid Row Housing Trust.  Timing was critical as well and items were provided in phases to allow for funding, construction, and move-in schedules.
