About

Carl Muehleisen is a founding partner and lead principal of O'Brian Muehleisen Architecture Studio (OMAS:WORKS) in New York City. OMAS is a rigorous architecture practice internationally based in New York and Toronto.

Carl received his Bachelor of Architecture, cum laude from New Jersey Institute of Technology in 1999. He began his apprenticeship at the Design Build studio of Architect John Nastasi where he obtained four years of heavy experience in design, building and construction management. In 2003, Carl joined the studio of world-renowned Artist and Architect, Maya Lin. During his tenure at Maya Lin Studio, Carl oversaw all architectural projects and numerous art projects from the design phase through construction. He was an integral role in the small studio, which ranged in works for diverse and international clients. After five-and-a-half years at Maya Lin Studio, Carl officially opened O'Brian Muehleisen Architecture Studio (OMAS:WORKS), with longtime friend Brian O’Brian.

Detaching itself from trends and styles, the manifesto of the studio continually evolves into multiple expressions, and is interested in pursuing a distinctness and timelessness unique to each endeavor, while maintaining a committed focus to design narrative. The comprehensive attention devoted to each Work manifests an architecture that complements and reflects the specific character of each project, client, program and place, and which strives to engage the sublime.

Specializing in architecture that reaches beyond the categories of residential, commercial or institutional design, the studio's interest and experience broadens to programming and planning, interiors, furniture design, landscape design and construction management. With a thorough and dedicated attention to their clients and the team, coupled with their combined 30 plus years experience in design, construction and skilled trades, the Work fosters an appreciation of craft and a critical eye to the means, methods and fabrication of form, object, atmosphere and space.
