The exisitng shell of the house and the property line set the constraints for this two-story + basement renovation in Lincoln Park, Chicago. The design intent was to promote a link between the north and south ends of the house, creating smooth transitions between public and private spaces while maintaining visual and physical connections. The existing storefront is incorporated into the plan, as to allow an interconnectedness between the interior kitchen and exterior patio. The patio terraces up to a garden deck above the garage, separating the private program from the alley, while allowing visual connection back to the house.
