Shinnecock Bay

This compact 4,000 square foot beach house was designed for a globe-trotting family as part of a larger family compound.  A cedar trellis links the detached garage to the main structure and marks the path of arrival. The butterfly roof—a nod to the house next door—pitches seaward, providing soaring ceilings to the upstairs bedrooms. On both levels, the architecture maximizes views across the bay with wall-to-wall glass.

On the interior, large airy spaces provide plenty of room for the family’s informal gatherings. Light oak, soft Carrera, and crisp white walls channel a beachy sensibility. Straightforward exterior materials like Western Red Cedar and dark metal panels maintain the casual atmosphere. Deliberately restrained and thoughtfully designed, this project serves as a manifesto for simple luxury.
