    Finally Arrived to Tokyo

    By Carl

I arrived to Tokyo yesterday and have suffered from jetlag, so I sleeped the whole day.
Today I am to visit Tokyo Institute of Technology and Tsukamoto's LAB. It will be very exciting to see how the school enviroment is. In Copenhagen we have very good conditions and facilities, I believe - so by not anticipate any problems or minor drawbacks is maybe naive. Well, I am to see today anyway. And maybe the routines simply are different.
My accomodation is a little outsite Tokyo - in Yokohama-shi. So I have to commute a ½ hour every day to school.
As it is my first real day in Tokyo I will go out and see the city. Maybe I will post later on my discoveries.

This is my tiny room. Very narrow room, and a little cold for now. But on the good side I have a balcony, and the possibility to open the door.

From what I hear, the facilities in Japanese architecture schools are pretty weak. Not like western schools with big PC labs. It's like 40 students to a prof and one laser printer. I'd be interested to hear what your lab is like. I think the studio set up is much different.

      Hi great with some response.
      so to answer the questions:
#1: the school has arranged accomodation for me, due to me being a scholarship student - so that is a very good point of departure.

#2: yes the architectural departments in Copenhagen is much more spatial and offeres on the surface of it a lot more facilities. But I have only visit my Lab for 1 hour, so I am not yet familiar with the routines and so on.
What I was told today there is app. 20 students on the Master's and Doctorial Programs at the Lab. We share alltogether 3 rooms of app 30m2 each. But I am very positive because my first impression of the group was very good, they seemed to be a team and have fun though working hard. I am looking forward to study and work there anyway.

Oh yeah the facial hair issue... well im here only for the architecture ;-)
