    Studio Ends

wow, it's been like a month since i've written anything. it has been crazy busy and people have actually in tokyo univ. sleeping bags in their classrooms...some people don't seem to see daylight before the submission of the design studio. hmm...but then again, i'm not talking about anything new here...

so i finished up my work, a residential house / unit. i was happy about the model, the panels and also my work. my professor seemed to be happy too...but as it comes to critic, i didn't get any "real" feedback.

this is how it goes: we have to submit two A1 sheets + a model. we formed a line 13.00 hours (the deadline) and our submission was stamped and registered. then we put up our panels on the exhibition space. as the exhibition opened for "public" professors walked around and the student was supposed to "holler", pull the professors arm, and invite him for a presentation. the professor would then mark the work in his notebook or wha'ever and later on all the professors would vote out around 30 works / students to present their work in a separate occasion.

the procedure was a bit strange and i was able to present my work at the exhibition but didn't get selected to present my work. i guess the most important part is that my professor who had seen the development of my work was happy about my work...it is enough for me.

right now i'm waiting for the summer vacation, as soon as i have finished up a competition with friends.

tokyo grows on you and my life here in tokyo is getting more interesting and dynamic :) thus the reason for not posting that much.

      Hi Hans,

This seems to be the best way to contact you. I enjoying reading your biog, thanks for sharing, its very entertaining and interesting. As a recent graduate from the UK and now 'tutor' at a small design college in Tokyo, I have noticed some similarities with your university and our school, namely the 'international' tag being a little false in reality.

Anyway, I am actually writing to ask about Shigeru Ban, I heard through a random email, after I posted on Archinect, that you interned there some time ago. I would like to ask about your experiences there if you don't mind.

Please email me on j.keating@ics.ac.jp if you have the chance. (My hand-phone email is josephkeating_@docomo.ne.jp)

      Thanks in advance Hans,

      joe
