AmericanAirlines Arena (NBA Miami Heat)

A 19,600-seat indoor arena for basketball, adaptable for other sports and music events. The mission of the arena project was to provide a state-of-the- art facility that maximized utilization by hosting a full spectrum of events appealing to all constituencies in Greater Miami. The arena stimulated growth and enhanced development in downtown area, providing an attractive venue for entertainment, sports, and learning, instilling a renewed sense of pride in the city as well as skyline presence and serves as a landmark for the image and reputation of the city as a premier place to live, work, visit and enjoy. The arena is a highly versatile space suitable for concerts, sports events, stage and theatrical events, family entertainment, meetings and special events.

The opportunity of utilizing the city’s unique tropical outdoors was capitalized upon during each phase of design. Breathtaking views of the downtown skyline, as well as the adjacent waterfront, are a prominent design element throughout the arena. Patrons enjoy views on the outdoor public terraces at each concourse, as well as from the multi-purpose practice court. A restaurant/bar is not only close-to-the action of the bowl, but also offers an exterior view of the water. The staircases and concourse galleries are viewed from outside through the glass facades. From the Boulevard, the arena stands out as a grand civic landmark.

The artistic exterior lighting and graphics concept are also integral to the architectural design.
