Patio Gallo (UIA)

Worldwide, the PET bottle consumption per person is about 6 bottles per week. This means that each person consumes 288 bottles per year, and on average only 18-20% of those 288 bottles are recycled. That is why 90-95% of the total pollution in the oceans is caused by plastic waste. Hence this kind of waste becomes one of the biggest aquatic fauna predators in the world. This project concept is based in that issue, we thought in re-using the huge quantity of bottles generated by us; as well as in a campaign led by the UIA (Universidad Iberoamericana) in which approximately 5,000 students would save 1 liter PET bottle, each one of the bottles would be delivered to the college so they could wash and paint in order to create a semi-opened roof for a pavilion. The pavilion would transform an actual area that is underused for the community and to allow a new world of feelings and sensations, movement, colors and shadows; and most importantly a direct relationship between the users and their built space.
