The Moffett Place public art plan is composed of a series of landscape sculptures that comprise the six entry plazas for Google’s campus in Sunnyvale, CA. The focal component of each plaza is an elegant bronze fountain, in an S form or Z variant, resting on a granite pedestal that corresponds in shape. A circular ripple pattern, similar to the effect of dropping a pebble into water, emanates from the center of each fountain extending into a series of concentric rings in the paving and seating area surrounding each fountain. Benches are made from recycled cast concrete conforming to the curves of the plaza paving. Their scalloped relief is echoed in the bronze fountain, bronze landscape screens and a luminaire that frame each plaza. The surrounding landscape is lushly planted with grasses. Grasses are planted in layers ringing the site and layer in front and behind the bronze screens to create images where landscape is confounded with sculpture. Sculpture and landscape work in support of a single image that
becomes a point of delight at the entry of each of the six campus buildings.
