Planning and design of three unique facility types, testing laboratory, office and a parking garage, to support Allegheny County Sanitary Authority (ALCOSAN) in achieving their $2 billion Clean Water Plan.
OUR APPROACH
This project replaces existing facilities that will be demolished to make space for ALCOSAN’s Wet Weather Plant Expansion. Following facility assessment and concept development, AE Works is completing the design of a new three-story Environmental Compliance Facility that includes a Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection accredited Laboratory and offices, in addition to a 461 space Parking Garage.
Because the new Environmental Compliance Facility will be located on ALCOSAN’s current union parking site, the design of the 5 1/2-story parking garage will replace lost surface parking and account for future growth. To enable continued plant operations and traffic flow, a construction delivery approach was developed in close coordination with ALCOSAN that includes the fast-tracked design of the parking garage.
IMPACT
Focused on enabling ALCOSAN to meet its long-term operational needs, the new Environmental Compliance Facility integrates modular, flexible laboratory design to support changes in testing protocols. Responding to ALCOSAN’s charge as a steward of the environment, the new building is 3 Rivers Proud, integrating many sustainable features such as a green roof, enhanced daylighting and ultra-efficient HVAC systems.
