Tower House utilizes a nine-square grid courtyard configuration to maximize views, sun, and air benefits of the surrounding natural landscape. Its slender towers and white brick facade are references to the iconic lighthouses that dot the state’s rocky coast.
The project features two towers at opposite corners, each serving a distinct purpose of public and private. The taller bedroom tower houses the main suite and a guest bedroom, providing a serene retreat with sweeping views of the Gulf of maine. In contrast, the smaller tower encompasses a double-height living area, embracing an open and airy ambiance perfect for relaxation and socializing.
In light of the careful preservation of surrounding woodlands, the project maximizes indoor/outdoor connections throughout. Private spaces are matched in size with public spaces, organized in a fashion where ground-level patios and rooftop deck spans the gap between the two towers. In the warmer months, the open air spaces double the area of the house, offering a seamless transition between indoor and outdoor spaces. The pool draws views to the water and brings its senses closer to the home. The bedroom sits atop of the tallest tower, drawing expansive views from a serene and relaxing environment.
The exterior material fenestration further emphasizes the home’s three major zones. Playing with scale, large white bricks wrap the tall tower, medium sized bricks protect the heart of the home, and intricate bricks define the small tower. Within, the house is finished with a balance of warm woods, cool concrete, and neutral whites, to help promote daylight throughout the space.
