因南京凯宾斯基酒店地处“中世纪世界最大的宫殿建筑群”明皇宫遗址附近，酒店整体设计从明皇宫遗址中汲取设计灵感，融入南京城最辉煌的明皇朝历史，以恢弘的空间叙事，重溯600年前的古中国文明，赋予酒店独特的文化记忆点，也形成酒店的差异化竞争优势。

Since Kempinski Hotel Nanjing is located near to the Ming Dynasty Palace Ruins which is also  known as the biggest palace complex in the Middle Ages, the overall design of this hotel is inspired from Ming Dynasty Palace which integrates the most glorious Ming Dynasty history in Nanjing city, adopts story-telling of the magnificent space and retraces the ancient Chinese civilisation of 600 years ago to endow the hotel with a unique cultural memory point and also contribute to form its differentiated competitive advantage.

空间设计围绕明皇朝具有代表性的“明皇宫”“江南贡院”“秦淮夜景”“金陵酒肆”等文化主题展开，重现古南京“风雅帝王州”的雄浑与细腻。

The space design follows the representative cultural themes such as “Ming Dynasty Palace”, “Jiangnan Examination Hall”, “Qinhuai Night Scenery”, “Jinling Taverns” and so on to represent the grandeur and sophistication of the ancient Nanjing city.

大堂以象征着古代最高接待礼仪的皇宫正殿为设计灵感，融入“藻井”“明城墙”等元素，营造恢弘的历史感，凸显酒店尊贵的迎宾礼节。明科举士子的书卷气质，隐藏于大堂吧书架墙与天花取形毛笔笔锋的飘带上；全日餐厅取餐台与吊柜的窗格意象，演绎原始质朴的“金陵酒肆”景致；客房将中国传统“屏风”元素，以非对称形状黏着于墙体之上，彰显艺术美。

The lobby is inspired from the the main hall of the palace which symbolizes the highest level of reception, with elements such as “caisson ceiling” and “Ming city wall”, to present the magnificent sense of history and highlight the hotel’s distinguished welcome etiquette. The temperament of Ming Dynasty’s scholars is hidden in the bookshelf wall in the lobby bar together with the ceiling ribbons which resembles brush strokes; the lattice imagery of the dining table and suspended cabinet in the all-day-dining restaurant interprets the rustic and simple scene of “Jinling Taverns”; the Chinese traditional “screen” element in a irregular form which is cladded on the wall of guest room exudes the artistic beauty.

其中设计最大的难点在于大堂，大堂方位东西走向，幕墙为全玻璃结构，导致了日间光照强烈直射室内。为削弱空间光感与明亮度，大堂天花不使用传统的白色涂料，而以有颜色的金属材质，进行空间色调压深处理；总台处则放置了双重金属重叠而成的镂空艺术屏风，既弱化直射人脸的光线，又装饰空间，一举两得。

The most difficult part in the design is the lobby. The lobby is oriented from east to west, and the curtain wall is full glass structure, resulting the strong direct sunlight into the indoors. In order to weaken the light perception and brightness, the lobby ceiling applies colourful metals instead of traditional white paint to deepen the tone in the space; the hollow artistic screen in the reception desk is made of double layers of metals, which is not only weaken the direct light into the face, but also functions as decoration of the space.
