Apartment No 74 was a four-story residential, built on a narrow long lot ( a width of 5.5 meters and a length of 13 meters), located in Nezam Abad, Tehran. The infill site was accessible through both northern and southern streets. The client’s main request was to design the building in a way it could be easily sold considering the financial situation dominating Tehran’s urban deteriorated fabric. Its small width was the main challenge while trying to propose the best alternative possible.
The contemporary architecture of Tehran in Nezam Abad, specifically buildings that were designed and built during the 2nd Pahlavi era was our main resource to overcome the challenge. with a rapid field study, we were able to extract brilliant solutions regarding issues such as urban facades and the matter of urban dwellings.
Using narrow and tall formal elements in designing the facade was the answer we borrowed to accentuate the building’s entrance. Having a perforated brick facade was another technique we applied, just a quick walk around the neighborhood.
