The site is located at the western part of Sao Cristavao, particularly Benfica, where we have focused on expansion of CADEG-Market and its role in forming and affecting the Urban fabric of the neighbourhood.

The goal is to enlarge the market area and integrate it with open public space, fostering continuous pedestrian connectivity while promoting the concept of ‘eyes on the street’. Also, incorporating green infrastructure to mitigate heat island effect and prevent landslides, as well as providing affordable mixed-use housing for both the current population and future immigrants.

The variety of hybrid systems have been proposed like logistics center to optimize last mile delivery strategy, an extension of the existing market with public plaza, food processing industries combined with urban farming, integration of the existing hospital with a pharmaceutical park and research facilities, micro-grid energy production, anaerobic digestors for turning food waste to energy, creation of community spaces and establishing connection between market area and adjacent favela. Collectively, these initiatives aim to boost economic growth within the neighbourhood.
