The design intent of Aggeler was to provide many amenities through the fulfillment of an essential service, The Library. My Role was to act as the Districts Interior Architect and Interior Designer. Through client interviews and program analysis I discovered that for this at risk youth population the Library represented more than a source of books for research and education it represented a valuable intersection where the students and staff could have a safe space, to relax, break a regimented routine and pursue valuable personal interests. Through analysis of site, budget, and schedule we arrived a design solution, using repurposed storage containers. Both laterally and symbolically, through adaptive reuse and salvage, we were taking something from one life purpose and giving it a new role.
