Cedar House

In 2015, a group of my close friends purchased a four acre property just west of Mt. Shasta, the fifth tallest mountain in Northern California. Their plan was to build a tiny house community though many of them had no experience with building. I was asked to provide general guidance on construction practices including the planning and building processes. Over the course of 20 long weekends over two years, we built the first structure: A 150 square foot tiny house complete with a wood burning stove and sleeping loft. We followed with a bath house powered by a propane hot water heater and solar array. Both buildings were wood construction, set on concrete form blocks with standard dimensional lumber framing. The exterior was clad in cedar boards from a local cedar mill about 30 miles from the build site.
