Safdie Rabines Architects provided full architectural design services for the 8,130 sf renovation and addition to the historic Casa Madrona Hotel and Spa in Sausalito, CA. Situated on a lush hillside, Casa Madrona enjoys an uninterrupted wide angle view of Richardson Bay and the San Francisco skyline, while providing a high level of privacy and security to its guests The project included the renovation of the three-story William G. Barrett House, a nationally registered historic Victorian mansion, into 11 luxury guest rooms, including the 3,200 sf “Alexandrite Suite”. The suite includes a large master suite, office, gym, living and sitting room, an entertaining kitchen and dining area, and large outdoor entertaining terrace. By creating seamless outdoor living spaces Safdie Rabines produced a design that takes advantage of the Hotel’s views and climate while increasing the total usable space. An addition to the adjacent Villa Madrona building created the “Junto Room,” a multi-function event facility including a private meeting room with state of the art audio-visual amenities, a full-sized catering kitchen, and a large wrap around ocean view terrace. The exquisite upscale design of the interiors of the project employ modern details and interiors that complement, yet create a distinct contrast to the historical exterior and preserved period detailing. Steel blues, bright whites, and warm wood tones within the facility’s design allude to the Hotel’s nautical environment, creating a ‘boat-like’ atmosphere.
