There are problems that appear repeatedly with new urban developments.  Typical issues like secluded amenities, social isolation, energy consumption and resource inefficiencies are above, some of the bigger challenges that entangle potential dialogue between public and private sectors, especially with Charlotte’s growing demand for Multi-Family building types.  As a result of these reoccurring patterns, the lack of sensitivity for valued communities, create division in public social connectivity therefore disrupting the production of positive urban environmental outcomes.  

However, the root of all these obstacles tie back to the main issue of profitability.  Land use from a standard developer approach, often result in horrid buildings who form donut shapes that ring around a site, perhaps metaphorical for pig hungry profiteers.  The uniqueness of this project, however does not set out to resolve these issues previously mentioned above. Instead, the project design approach is detached from the notion of monetary gains and it’s bounded urban contextual disregard.  

Embedded Permanence is a project investigation that seeks to answer hypothetically, the question of “how would urban development look like if profit as a true pragmatic motivation, becomes an inexistent factor not influencing  how cities are formed?” From this approach, maybe the link between communities and the urban fabric becomes stronger and social connectivity polishes and cities become inconceivably vibrant.  “Embedded Permanence is imagined as a catalyst development that revives an inactive space into a high-density urban environment that improves the quality of life, promotes environmental awareness and allows for social growth through thoughtful planning, architecture, and landscape.
