Introduction
This projects task was to redesign the interior spaces of the home, for a family of four, based on client interviews with the father. During the interview, key insights into the families wants and needs were given which allowed me to find solutions that would fit the site and their desires. The first issue was that the family needed both private and public spaces which would allow them to entertain guests, while also keeping their privacy in areas that weren’t meant for guests. Another issue was that the current home did not have adequate locations for displaying art and other memorabilia which the family had collected from friends and trips that they’d taken.
Concept
Keeping with the families wants and needs list I determined that an eclectic style would best suit the family, and align with the fathers’ design vision. Blending mid-century modern, art deco, and contemporary design styles would allow for flexibility and continuity throughout the public program, while also blending both programs (public and private) together. White walls and dark wood detailing, with bronze accents, carry throughout the public program. And I used dark wood baseboard and crown molding to continue the feeling from the public program into the private program without making the spaces feel cold and uninviting. Furniture was chosen which matched the styles but added color to each of the spaces bringing them to life.
