The Lobby of this building situated in the midst of New York's Soho, utilizes textured cedar wood as a linear covering throughout the length of the main wall. The warmth of this natural material serves as a visual counterpoint to the iron structures and the stone fronts that characterize the buildings nighborhood.
The two volumes that project horizontally from the main wall serve as table and chair, seem to float over the slate floor. The selection of this dark stone emphasizes the clarity of the cedar surfaces. Besides the lighting appliques over the central volume, a hidden inlet in the ceiling lights the wall from above, creating a subtle playing of lights and shadows throughout the textured surface.
