Historical Preservation

The concept of this project was to create a residential and commercial space in a historical Italianate/Victorian style carriage house.  Our goal was to create a comfortable space for a university scholar and their family to live as well as providing a space for the University of Akron to hold events.  We were presented with the challenge of not only maintaining the historical elements of the structure, but also re-purposing multiple elements from the original space in the renovated space.  One element we chose to re-use was the original garage door as a feature in our new living area by utilizing it as a divider/door between the office and open concept living/kitchen area.
