IMMIGRATION MUSEUM

Project Description -This is a design proposal for an immigration museum placed on the boarder between Mexico and the United States. My goals for this project were to design a building capable of bringing two cultures together and blurring the line between two countries. I chose to use a modular design, which is required due to the fact that the structure will be moved every six months to a new location. This was done while at the same time keeping the building as sustainable as possible by using recycled materials.

Modularity- Due to the nomadic nature of the structure, I felt it was important to have building that is flexible enough to changes as not only the location changes but also the needs of occupants. I accomplished this through the use of a compact kit of parts, which allows for a variety of building configuration to be achieved.

Sustainability-  I was able to achieve sustainability through the use of recycled materials and adaptive reuse. The primary building material of this structure is recycled steel. The building is able to be adapted to different locations and needs allowing it to be use repeatedly and therefore reducing the need for additional new structures.

Kit of programs- I have adapted a unique way of programming. Much like the modular kit of parts design of my building, I also have a kit of programs or potential spaces. This allows the building to be easily modified and adapted to the specific needs of the occupants. They can simply order a program according their individual needs, making the design work for a broader group of people.
