Le Nouvel Hôtel

Le Nouvel Hôtel is located on the edge of Old Montreal, in Québec, Canada. With views of Old Port Montreal and St. Lawrence River visible from its location, the design of the hotel pays homage to the unique characteristics of the city. Arches that dominate the interior reflect the hydro dams of Montreal. The inspiration behind the round shape of the stairs, countertop, and seating in the bar come from the ferris wheel located at the Old Port.

The inspiration behind the lighting concept for Le Nouvel Hôtel comes from the idea of transition from warm to cool colors according to circulation as guests move from the first to the second floor. As one enters the hotel, a stream of warm and bright light invites guests in. The marble reception desk is backlit with diffused warm light.

With views of St. Lawrence River from the restaurant, a fountain is placed in the center of the restaurant to incorporate the natural surroundings of Montreal. To further emphasize water into this space, water textured glass on the ceiling reflects light to create shadows on the floor mimicking water ripples.
