A five-bedroom modern dwelling set within an open coastal area with a thick tree line backing was regrettably refused permission by the Minister at appeal. This was notwithstanding the Planning Inspector’s strong recommendation to approve the application because of its undoubted design quality. The proposal subsequently was awarded 1st prize in its category at the AJA Architectural Awards. The scheme used cutting-edge design to make the best use of the coastal views, along with sympathetic materials to reflect its natural environment. The high-performance dwelling incorporates green technology and an internal/external pool with green and copper roofs.
