The client was the city authorities of Brussels. The subject of the competition was the design of a small industrial building, which would be an extension of the existing Green Bizz 1 industrial-startup incubator. The plot is located in the northern part of Brussels, surrounded on three sides by busy streets, and on one side adjacent to the existing Green Bizz 1 building. The design requirements specified the need to provide space for 62 ateliers/studios ranging from 50 to 400 m² (totaling 3650 m²). Public and city-building functions were planned for the ground floor, and urban farming space was planned for the roof. The plot was also to include an underground parking lot, connected to the parking under Green Bizz 1, and a green area occupying at least one-third of the plot. All ateliers are serviced by forklifts. Service is provided by two elevators and a gallery on the south side. The project was to be prepared in two alternative versions for the atelier scenario. An additional competition requirement was the possibility of converting the levels above the ground floor into apartments of diverse typologies, meeting the requirements specified by city standards. In the residential scenario, the gallery on the south side was to become terraces belonging to the apartments. 70% of the materials used were to be recycled. The building was designed with a wooden CLT structure.
