Crosswake House

The project is three-story double-whythe concrete block with wood floor and shed roof infill, including cast-in-place concrete half basement. The exterior infill walls are sheathed in cedar and the roofs are sheathed in sheet aluminum over transverse purlins. The interior shall be sheathed in part with birch plywood paneling and part exposed CMU block… Radiant hearting is cast into the floor slabs. The project is my first example of an open project, using examples from the series interrupted and knock-out panels for future expansion. By using masonry the structure is durable to weather, while wood framed interior allows for future adaptive-reuse of the space. The house is designed with passive and active solar gain in mind, and uses the laws of thermodynamics in lieu of forced air.
