Winners of a European-wide competition, the German firm of Peter and Keller Architekten were selected to design a brand new teaching High School and nursery in Bressanone, Italy.
Located in the South-Tyrol mountain area of Bolzano, the architects created a U-shaped, three story building in an area of 60 x 60 meters, which covers the north oriented school yard on three sides. The elongated two-story nursery sits at the northern base boundary.
The façade of the high school consists of one-story tall glazing and bright colored opaque panels with integrated ventilation. Exterior aluminum blinds, by Hunter Douglas, are installed throughout the façade and provide sufficient sun protection for the exterior spaces. From a distance, the building looks like a solid volume that, as you get closer, opens up.
