Relocated from Franklin Cool Springs to Nashville, Microsoft’s new office considers what a modern work space should look like, feel like, and function in our more mobile world. One of the first tenant fit-outs globally to utilize Microsoft’s Intelligent Workplace Program: Design Language for Place, the space is designed to provide “choice” for its employees. Functional spaces aren’t delineated like they are in traditional offices, instead they co-exist in a free-flowing, open environment with a variety of seating and dedicated work areas. High-backed seats provide private work areas, comfy furniture encourage lounging, while bistro-style tables invite several people to work together.

Microsoft chose oneC1TY, a newly constructed, multi-building center for technology-enabled commercial, research, and retail activity, as their new home realizing the future of “choice” goes beyond the workspace to the greater corporate office park. Microsoft’s building is directly next to a mobile shipping container village which includes small businesses, volleyball courts and a vegan restaurant. These shipping containers will morph and move around the greater site as new building construction begins.

Inside, honest materials of reclaimed wood millwork, wood flooring, polished concrete floors and blackened steel wall finishes are incorporated throughout. Glass-system meeting room walls maximize natural light and visually connect spaces. Thoughtful use of indirect light and decorative pendant fixtures lend a softer mood and vibe to the space. Integrated AV into all meeting rooms was designed with careful consideration of acoustics. A custom photo mosaic wallcovering mimics views of Nashville’s historic Broadway and underscores the office location.
