A tensile structure in the midst of conventional post-and-beam designs is sure to stand out from the crowd. A community gym can become the centerpiece to an area that appears woefully uninspiring without any distinctive architecture. This is about bringing people together under one canopy to be able to celebrate as one. The natural ebb and flow of tensile design draws strongly from looking at nature and seeing how these structures develop naturally over time. This project hopes to emulate nature’s method for creating structure. Thus, this project attempts to explore the human body through the form of the structure. Just as a gym pushes a human’s physical limits, the organization and structure of the nervous system can become the focus of the tensile design for this project.
