-Creating a Human Niche Within a Natural Landscape-
The Lackawanna Heritage Bike Trail winds alongside the Lackawanna River and throughout the Scranton, PA area as part of a larger network of trails throughout eastern Pennsylvania. An opportunity to showcase the trail and provide incentive for future travelers presented itself on a field next to the trail
The program for the proposal incorporated an environmental education pavilion, restaurant, and bicycle shop. Early response to the site included a series of sketch models [right] that helped provide a functional, rational layout for all of the spaces. The evolution of these ‘pavilion’ schemes eventually lent themselves to the spatial organization of a plaza within the confines of these separate structures.
