The client came to us with a Japanese style home surrounded by Koi ponds and bamboo forests located on a low ridge in Santa Barbara. The house needed to be completed, updated and remodeled. The clients wanted to explore an Indonesian feel while maintaining the Japanese style as much as possible.
The project was broken into two phases. First, relocate the master suite and provide a more modern interior that had a spa-like quality. Second, remodel the remaining portions of the house to add another legal bedroom and re-finish the interiors.
Phase I, resulted in a new master suite equipped with full master bath, closet and bedroom that open out to the Koi ponds and the view of the gardens. The special spot was the new master bath which the client wanted to feel like a spa. The tub was surrounded by an overspill trough filled with black stones and the entire tub was built-in to a teak shelving system with one large window opening out to the Koi ponds.
The space allocated for the bathroom was very small. So we worked with the contractor to design a custom depth teak vanity to hold the two sinks. The floor was done in a pebble stone tile and the shower was finished with a teak floor for comfort.
During this phase, we also worked with the client to build new decks and railings around the house and other structures on the site. The client also requested us to rework much of the landscaping elements including new hardscape, new concrete pathways, and expanded deck areas.
