This project is a total remodel of a classic mid-century modern house built in the mid 1950’s The original home was designed, built and occupied by the original architect, Noel Cook. The property changed hands in 2006.
The redesign and total refinishing of the home was an opportunity to celebrate the materials and honest modern form driven architecture of the mid-century. Each room has been remodeled and updated to maintain the original post-and-beam aesthetic with the original tongue-and-groove ceilings. The new additions of dry stacked stone and fine wood joinery maintain the original spirit of the home while new hardscape elements, modern appliances and glazing systems combine to bring the function of the home up to current expectations. Careful interior and exterior detailing accentuate the modern lines of the home and allow for a refinement of the many new and exciting materials and textures used to express the current redefined aesthetic. The design also includes many custom designed furniture pieces that complete this collaboration of client, artisan builder and architect.
