About 

Chitra is a New York-based Architectural designer, urbanist, and sustainable creative consultant with five years of professional experience in architecture, research, building energy, and sustainability. She is currently with the Center for Active Design, helping guide buildings with strategies of "health, wellness, and human experience."
Previous experience includes high-end residential, commercial, and institutional architecture firms, focusing on historical preservation and Passive House principles. She worked at non-profits such as Building Energy Exchange and UN-Habitat NYO and in private property development firms.
Chitra has a Masters in Science and Sustainability in the Urban Environment, a Bachelor of Architecture from Bernard and Anne School of Architecture in CCNY, and an Advanced Arts diploma from Frank Sinatra School of the Arts.
In addition to "green" environmentally responsible and resource-efficient concepts in buildings, communities, and cities, her focus is to use design as a bridge between nature and the urban environment. She aims to find disparity in urban design infrastructure challenges to transition to more sustainable and resilient futures.

Responsibilities include:

The AIA New York State (AIANYS) Emerging Professionals Committee developed a scholarship program to encourage the Architect Registration Examination (ARE). This scholarship is intended to recognize Associate AIA members in New York State who have made significant contributions at an early stage in their careers to the profession and encourage their licensure pursuit. In 2020, the scholarship was rebranded in recognition of Burton L. Roslyn, FAIA, who spent much of his career mentoring and educating emerging architects. In his role as an educator at the New York Institute of Technology and as a Professional, he trained, mentored, and educated his students, emerging professionals, and peers, all with the vision of elevating the Architect’s role in creating the built environment.
