Clinton Hill Library

The given site is a through lot in Clinton Hill, with an existing library, and unutilized horse stable. The purpose of the project is to repurpose the library, catering to the community by creating a library/community center. In the development of this design, I focused on what the community needed in this area. Through blogs and surveys, I found the residents of Clinton Hill respond well to community driven events such as workshops, gatherings, and performances. Because of this, I adjusted the typical library program to have an auditorium space, classroom spaces, a café, and several other elements. Additionally, since thee site is an existing through lot, I preserved that concept, allowing users to start their journey on one street, and finish on the other. Clinton Hill lacks open public spaces, so my design separates the program into two buildings, allowing for plazas at the front of the buildings, and a courtyard space in the center of the site. Lastly, the design features a structural system that bends the idea of the typical truss, to create an attractive aesthetic from the street, as well as provide sky lighting in the main spaces of the building.
