The Contemporary Arts Museum (CAM) of Raleigh, NC in conjunction with Pugh + Scarpa and Clearscapes, sets out to satisfy the design of a multi-use Contemporary Arts Museum, Retail, and Condo space for the warehouse district of downtown Raleigh, NC.
The museum and condo tower are split by the interior street created to the residential entry. Small windows reveal the museum activity while bridges connect either side allowing museum visitors and residents to interact on a daily basis through a visual connection. The facade of the residential tower becomes a piece of contemporary art for the city through its changing facade controlled by the residents. Each condo is lined with a skin of colorful sliding screens to control the exposure of the balcony and condo. The movement of these screens changes the color and design of the facade daily similar to the rotating exhibits in the museum.
