The Boston Architectural College (BAC) is pleased to announce that the National Architectural Accrediting Board (NAAB) has granted its maximum eight-year accreditation to the BAC's Bachelor of Architecture and Master of Architecture, online and onsite.

The NAAB is the sole agency authorized to accredit US professional degree programs in architecture and it grants an 8-year, a 4-year, and a 2-year probationary term of accreditation, depending on the extent of the program's conformance with established educational standards.

BAC President Glen LeRoy, FAIA, FAICP, comments, "As the nation's premiere practice-oriented school of architecture, the BAC is quite proud to receive the maximum 8-year NAAB accreditation. We are pleased that the visiting team recognized us for several conditions Met With Distinction, including: Technical Documentation, Building Envelope Systems, and Business Practices. We are particularly honored that the team also found distinction in the BAC's commitment to Cultural Diversity and Social Equity, which speaks to the exceptional nature of our urban-centered, practice-based program, and the diversity of our student body."

Karen Nelson, dean of the School of Architecture, says, "The BAC has been recognized with distinction for its leadership role in educating an extraordinarily diverse student body to help bring about social equity through design. We continue to be at the forefront of learning from practice and academic study with the guidance of brilliant practitioners and faculty members. We are honored to be recognized and empowered by NAAB's findings to continue to build on this historically strong accreditation."

The NAAB mission is to develop and maintain a system of accreditation in professional architecture education that is responsive to the needs of society and allows institutions with varying resources and circumstances to evolve according to their individual needs. The accreditation process is intended to verify that each accredited program substantially meets standards that comprise an appropriate education for an architect. The curriculum standards ensure that graduates will be technically competent, critical thinkers who are capable of defining multiple career paths within a changing societal context.

The BAC's next NAAB accreditation review will be in 2026.
