THE ARCHITECTURAL INTERVENTION OF THE BERLIN CROSSING TAKES PLACE ON A PATH WHERE THE WALL ONCE STOOD. THE BERLIN CROSSING DIVIDES A PART OF THE PATH IN HALF IN BOTH DIRECTIONS, CREATING FOUR QUADRANTS OF LANDSCAPE AND HARDSCAPE. THESE SECTIONS ARE TRANSFORMED INTO GATHERING AREAS ABOVE AND BELOW THE LEVEL OF THE EXISTING PATH. THE SPACES ARE THEN CONNECTED WITH MAJOR CIRCULATION PATHS IN THE DIRECTIONS IN WHICH THE SPACE WAS INITIALLY DIVIDED. THE PROGRAM OF THE SITE INCLUDES CIRCULATION PATHS, SEATING FOR PERFORMANCES, SHOWS, AND MEETINGS, AND AN ABUNDANCE OF GREEN SPACES. THE SITE IS ALSO DIVIDED BY A REFLECTING POOL THAT RUNS DOWN THE CENTER AS A PROMINENT REMINDER OF THE DIVISION OF SPACES. THE BERLIN CROSSING SERVES AS A TRANSFORMATIVE SPACE OF TIME AND PLACE THROUGH ITS CONDITIONS OF SEPARATION AND CONNECTION.
