We had a course, which discussed hyper-natural design. During this course, we talked about and reviewed how we could use the natural mechanism and its structure and how we could apply these inspirations to reduce the human effects.

My study was about the air circulation mechanism utilized in Leafcutter ants’ nest structure (turrets) and how I could take advantage of this inspiration to my bus stop structure with optimum modification.

The difference between inlet and outlet turrets’ heights will cause a differential pressure and this differential pressure will result in an air circulation mechanism. The porosity structure of the turrets may be advantageous and complementary to the automated actions of rapid deconstruction as soon as a nest opening needs to be closed during rains and to allow gas exchanges with the outside when the turret remains closed after heavy rains (Cosarinsky and Roces, 2012, 239). Warm-season: The cooler air will be pushed to the higher elevation by the warmer air. This circulation will be continued until the outlet vent will be remained open.

Cold-season: In cold days, the outlet vent will be closed and there is no more airflow thus the warmer air will remain at the higher elevation.
Using the metal behavior to create the same porosity structure by bending the aluminum plates due to the increasing temperature.
