Rethinking Mallorca's Seafront

'Live in the sunshine, swim the sea, drink the wild air.'
(Ralph Waldo Emerson)

Goal of the competition was to rethink the seafront of Cala Millor, understanding it in all its extension as a whole that needs to be transitional space between nature and urbanization and at the same time improve the experience of the people who visit the site as well as for those who live there all year long.
The design is based on the confrontation of past and present of the site. From the beach side hotel's open spaces are turned into new green areas with dunes and native flora. It is now calm space, separating beach from hotels. Beach is now bigger thanks to demolitoin of the old promenade. New one is designed as a overground wooden-steel structure, so it is not taking any space from beach and provides sun-shades. On the other side open space were turned into new commercial walkway.
To take push away cars from the seaside new car limit border was established. Parkings are situated in the suburbs of Cala Milla and connected to the beach with bus -lines (city buses are not subjects to the car limit border).
