Coalton, KY is an unincorporated community in Boyd County. It is located along U.S. Route 60 between Rush and Cannonsburg. As of the 2013 census, the area has a population of 363,000 people. For the last ten to twenty years, the environment of Eastern Kentucky has been affected by coal mining and mountaintop removal.As coal mining jobs died out due to environmental issues, the town’s economy suffered and nearly came to a halt. This project will address some of the economic, educational, and social needs in Coalton, KY.
